another nuthouse update !

i apologize again, for losing touch with my writer-self.

The nuthouse has gone mad, and relocated cross-country, by vehicle. 2 days of travel with 2 children, a large dog, and a cat.

The children did exceptionally well. Of course, they had a portable dvd player, which may be the reason for the silence we enjoyed. They also enjoyed travelling through states they'd never been to. ("are we STILL in Kansas?")

The dog, also did very well. She ,as a rule, loves to ride. It is very difficult to leave the house without her. She kept to the cargo area, laid out on her mat with her bone.

The cat, did not do so well. This was rough even in concept. He's been outside his entire life, and NOT a rider, like his littermate was. We put him into a kennel box, and hoped for the best. We had planned to let him out and walk him, like we do the dog, on stops.
HE had other plans. Like "messing" in said kennel , NOT before we stop. NOT during the stop. No. He decided to mess the box every time we got back on the interstate from a stop. Not only did this drive Husband insane, but it stunk to high heaven, and resulted in the cat screaming to get out until we caved and stopped again.
When we reached our destination, the cat did not enjoy his bath one bit. he DID love the drying rubdown. He hasn't been out since we've arrived, and is adjusting MUCH better than we thought he would.

I am sad to announce, some of our favorite amusements didn't make the trip. The possibility of spending 3 days in the car additionally worrying about fish, was not a possibilty at all.

The Betta my daughter adores, and loves with all her soul, was left in the care of her best friend. The 5-year old betta was in no condition for this trip (especially taking into consideration the poor thing MUST be about out of lives. ) We were also not willing to bear the torture of this fish dying somewhere in Kansas, and the agonizing grief it would have caused daughter the rest of the trip.

Son's tetras were adopted by my FIL- they are livley and spunky, so we weren't concerned about their health, but knew the trip would be hard on them as well.

The Nuthouse reloacation has been smooth, considering the major changes we are all going through. We've returned to Colorado, so I believe the smoothness results from happiness. (on the kids' part, I think they are just thrilled with the views ! )
