Amusement with . . . Elevators. yes, Elevators

I think it's safe to start by saying , "not at all the amusement you are thinking". (tsk! tsk! )

We went to Blackhawk with some friends for the weekend. Blackhawk happens to be a small casino town. (huge casinos though!)
Our friend made the arrangements for the room (he's a 'regular') which was in a hotel the size of a small city. 34 floors. 2 floors of casinos, 2 floors of meeting rooms, spa, gym, and pool on the roof.

34 floors means an elevator is a necessity. Especially when your room is on floor 30.

When we arrived saturday evening, the casinos were swamped with people. We got settled into the room, and explored the casino until we got tired of looking for open machines. Naturally , we got seperated, from our friend, who could map the place in his sleep.

The casino floors were designed in large circles. We walked all the way around twice, until we found the elevator hallway.

the elevator opens, Husband hits the buttom for the highest number. the doors close, up we go, but realize the highest number was TEN. um. we're on 30.
so we get off the elevator on 10. cross the hall to get onto a different elevator ( i think we were hoping it would go higher?) and ended up going back to where we started in the casino.

walked the "track" another 2 times, and didn't see another elevator hall. we saw the enty hall for the spa and desk, but no elevators.

silly, road weary, tired us, walked the track another 2 or 3 times before returning to the elevators that only go to 10. standing there, one of the hotel staff comes to wait as well. I poke husband, who being a MAN, will not cave to ask even where the elevators are.
So, as a woman, i take it upon myself to end this silliness. " excuse me sir, do you happen to know of an elevator that goes higher than 10?"

"well, yes, the hotel elevator. its through the spa. "

ugh. thank you!

finally we get to the right one, and up we went, declaring no more expolring til morning , when we would have an escort and some more rest in us !

Sunday afternoon we decide we'd like to go see the roof-pool. floor 34. In the elevator, the pool floor has its own big button. we rode that elevator up and down 32 floors at least 3 times, because folks kept getting on to go to thier floors. Husband kept hitting 'pool'. never got there. it seemed to be the only on that didn't light up.

so we stop at 30 again. try a different elevator (2 of 5 now) .same thing. another 2 rides.

Yes, haha, but allow me to remind you that on top of the high altitude, riding up and down repeatedly in a 34 floor elevator will make your ears bleed if you do it too long. Passing floors 12, 17, 24 and 27, my ears would pop so loudly I'd thought I'd gone deaf.

and we still hadn't gone past 30.

Again in elevator number two, I can't take it anymore. my ears hurt and my poor stomache is still adjusting. So I ask- how do we get to the pool ?

The man points to the sign, and the card reader under the floor buttons.

POOL,SPA FLOORS : SLIDE YOUR ROOM KEY AND PRESS THE FLOOR BUTTON

Yep. Wow did we feel goofy. In our defense, this sign and reader were at ankle height.

We made it to the pool, but were still somewhat motion-sick for swimming.
